Donald Leroy Copeland, 79, of Wabash, Indiana, died at 10:40 p.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was born August 5, 1930 in Wabash, to Paul and Margaret (Brading) Copeland.
Don married Patricia Sue Berry in Lima, Ohio, on April 23, 1955. He was a U.S. Army veteran where he was an expert marksman and an instructor. He retired from U.S. Gypsum in Wabash after 27 years. He then started and operated Park-U-Load trailer service for ten years. Don had a love of horses, and owned and rode them throughout his life. He was a "wheeler-dealer" and enjoyed traveling the state going to auctions and rummage sales.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Sue Copeland of Wabash; four children, Paul (Lisa) Copeland of Wabash, Arvin (Annette) Copeland of Carmel, Indiana, Diane (Greg) Richards of Wabash, and Roger (Lorie) Copeland of Middlebury, Indiana; a brother, Larry (Ginger) Benedict of Urbana, Indiana; 10 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lena Hoff, who died May 12, 2009, and two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Tim Prater officiating. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Wabash County Cancer Society.
