Walter R. "Walt" Flitcraft, Sr. 81, of Roann, Indiana, died at 12:13 a.m., Monday, March 1, 2010 at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was born August 6, 1928 in Miami County, Indiana to Lloyd E. Flitcraft and Hazel Marie (Wertenberger) Flitcraft Rhodes.
Walt married Margaret E. Thompson in Fulton, Kentucky on March 15, 1948. He was a retired farmer and had worked 10 years at Hively Manufacturing in Roann. Walt was a US Army veteran, a member of the Wabash American Legion, and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed mowing his yard, picking up leaves, and cracking walnuts. Most of all, he loved going to the cabin in upper Michigan to fish.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret E. Flitcraft of Roann; three sons, Roger D. (Deborah) Flitcraft and Walter R. (Tracy) Flitcraft, Jr., both of Wabash, and Joseph R. (Betty) Flitcraft of Roann; five grandchildren, Carey A. Sommers of Cincinnati, Ohio, Reggie D. Flitcraft of Wabash, Aaron M. Flitcraft of Frankfort, Illinois, Joe R. Flitcraft and Jewel M. Flitcraft, both of Roann; two great-grandchildren, Jacob T. Amlung and Cecillia C. Sommers, both of Cincinnati; his niece, Phyllis (David) Barrett of Laketon, Indiana; and sister-in-law, Nellie Williams of Fulton, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Robert James Flitcraft, two brothers, and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 335 Chippewa Road, Roann, on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Lowell Burrus officiating. Burial will be in Roann Community Cemetery, Roann. Friends may call 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, and 9-11 a.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Roann Fire Department or American Diabetes Association.
