It was with great sadness that I learned that Gilbert Weldy passed away in December. I had the good fortune to meet and interview him in the summer of 2006 for my work with conscientious objectors. I was so impressed with his bravery in becoming a smoke jumper in Civilian Public Service, a new field at that time. I will miss him.

My uncle Gilbert was a man of great integrity and knowledge and was a joy to be around. He was also an avid golfer who not only played the game quite well but understood that lessons about life could be learned on the golf course along with the intense competition on the links. He also had a wonderful sense of humor to go with his academic background and wide array of talent. Uncle Gilbert holds a special place in my life and I'm sure in the hearts of many other people that had the pleasure to know him. He will be greatly missed!

Our family would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone for their prayers, sympathies and correspondance during this time. Gilbert's life was an inspiration and his memory will live on in the lives he touched.
